The psalmist says of God that He is his Refuge and his Fortress – a God he can really trust! What about you? What about me? What are we saying of the Lord? We need to speak aloud the goodness of our God. He is a faithful God. He is the Source of all blessings; the very Source of all goodness in our lives. He is our Refuge and our Fortress. We need to acknowledge God and make verbal confessions about His goodness an essential part of our personal fellowship with Him.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.” ~ Psalm 91:1-2
We are on the battlefield every day. We are faced with dangers every day, and everywhere. Only God knows what traps the enemy has laid to bring diseases, accidents, violence, evil and destruction to our lives and to the lives of those we love. But our good Lord has promised that even though “the wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him, the Lord will not leave him in his hand” (Psalm 37:32, 33). Our faithful God has promised that He would be “a shield to those who put their trust in Him” (Proverbs 30:5). He can be a shield to someone we pray about because of our faith!
May this day be a day that you will find confidence in the promises of God provided in His Word. When it seems as though you’re surrounded by enemies, remember that your God is your Refuge and your Fortress. Put your full trust in His unfailing strength because He has already won this fight with the enemy. You can rest in the assurance that if you need defending, He will defend you. If you need protection, He will protect you. If you need courage, your God will encourage you!
