God can heal anxiety!

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy..” ~  Psalm 94:19

God doesn’t want us to live in a state of high anxiety. He has not given us a spirit of fear. He doesn’t want us to be anxiously looking about, but confidently looking up. So what are we to do if we are being overtaken by anxious thoughts? We need to set our focus on God and His goodness. The comfort of His presence and His Word will turn the fear into joy. You see, anxiety is alarming us to the fact that we are anxious because we have taken our eyes off the Lord. Anxious people are filled with the worries of life. Peaceful people, on the other hand, are filled with the realities of God.

Where is your mind today? Is it fixed on the greatness of God? Is it actively clinging to His precious and magnificent promises? Remember, no matter how big your problems may seem to you, He can certainly handle whatever troubles you are facing right now. He is good. He loves you. You can trust Him.

Prayer

Father, we acknowledge that anxiety is not simply a worrisome little habit but rather, it is a sin . . . a repeated sin. Worry compromises our fellowship with You and with others. We thank You that the death of Your Son, Jesus, provided the payment in full for our sins, including the sin of worry. We trust Him to take care of our worries, just as the psalmist said, “Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.”

We pray that You will quiet our hearts. As You do, please lead us to a quiet and sure confidence in Yourself. Take the things that we needlessly fuss over—those worries that have burdened us long enough—and erase them from our minds. Please teach us to focus on You instead—to sit at Your feet in quietness. And as we cast the heavy weight of anxiety on You, we will trust You to give us instead a peace that surpasses understanding and a confidence that You are at work—even though we remain in the same circumstances. Thank You ahead of time for how You will deal with the burdens that weigh heavily on our hearts. Thank You for how You will relieve the anxieties that cause us to miss the important things in life. In Christ’s name, I pray. Amen!

Anxiety Free

This message is about “Being Anxiety Free” for everyone to reflect on. We could keep from having a lot of anxiety, grief and heartache that we encounter if we would seek the Lord in prayer about everything we do; if we would pray before we make any move or decision; and if we would pray when we are seeking a solution to a situation that we are facing.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”~ Philippians 4:6

You may say “But I have prayed”. Did you? How did you pray? Did you pray with your mind already made up? Was your prayer a request asking God to bless what you had already decided to do? Was your prayer more of an effort to try to convince God that this was the right thing, or were you earnestly and sincerely seeking His will and guidance? More often than not, so many people when they pray about a matter they have already decided what they are going to do and they are just trying to get God on board with their plans.

As long as you continue to pray like this you will continue to keep making mistakes and doing the wrong thing. And the result will be anxiety, grief, suffering, confusion and a myriad of other things. There was a reason why He said to acknowledge Him in all our ways. We don’t have the ability to direct our own steps. We don’t know the outcome before the beginning. We don’t know what is around the corner or in the future. But God does and He has a promise attached to acknowledging Him in all our ways– He will direct our paths.

If you want to have the right answer, go in the right direction, do the right thing, have peace in your decisions, then stop going to God in prayer with your own plans and preconceived ideas of His answer. Humbly and sincerely seek Him, laying your own answers aside to hear from Him. If you will, you will stop anxiety from entering into your life.
