“My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.” ~ Psalm 121:2
It’s easy to get lost in the craziness of this world. We are so small, tiny pieces of a greater design. But even at our lowest, we are God’s beautiful creations, destined for glory and victory in His name. Romans 8:37 says, “…in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” The Bible talks about the joy we have in Christ, but what about the challenges we have to face? How, exactly, can we find strength in weakness?
First, we have to know our enemy. Our enemy is sin, temptation, and most of all, death. But didn’t Jesus conquer the grave? He defeated death once and for all when he rose again on that third day. He died so that we may die to our sinful nature, and He rose again so that we may rise with Him. Consider Romans 8:31: “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” By ourselves, we are slaves to sin, and we are weak. But in Christ, we are stronger, greater than any force that comes against us.
We also have to know our ally. The God of the Universe is on our side, and He is not willing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to Him and live. The One who placed the stars in the sky is the same One who stands on the front lines of every battle you will ever face. He has the power to create, and He has the power to destroy. It’s not in our own strength that we can trust, but in Christ alone our hope is found. When we have unwavering faith in the maker of heaven and earth, we also trust Him to lead us personally out of the darkness and into the light.
And so no matter what we go through, God can and will help us through- if we let Him. As Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” We don’t belong to ourselves anymore and thankfully so. Left to our own devices, we only crash and burn. But when Christ lives in us, we can do all things. Where does our help come from? Our help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
